Error Messages

Error Cause Solution
"Not in Camera View" Viewing from 3D viewport instead of camera Press Numpad 0 to enter camera view
"No Active Camera" No camera selected or no camera in scene Add a camera and set it as active
"Invalid Image Format" Unsupported image file for overlay Use PNG, JPG, EXR, or other supported formats

Performance Optimization

  • Quality Settings: Use lower quality for complex guides
  • Feature Management: Disable unused features
  • Subdivision Limits: Reduce grid density for better performance
  • Line Styles: Use solid lines instead of dashed/dotted for better performance

Tips & Best Practices #

Composition Guidelines

Rule of Thirds

  • Place horizons on third lines, not center
  • Position subjects at intersection points (power points)
  • Use for both horizontal and vertical elements
  • Combine with other guides for complexity

Golden Ratio & Spiral

  • More subtle than rule of thirds
  • Excellent for natural, organic compositions
  • Use golden rectangles to frame elements
  • Spiral works well for eye-flow guidance

Leading Lines

  • Use to guide viewer's eye to subject
  • Diagonal lines create dynamic tension
  • Converging lines add depth
  • Parallel lines create stability

Workflow Tips

Setup Workflow

  1. Start with basic guides (Rule of Thirds)
  2. Add complexity gradually
  3. Test different combinations
  4. Save successful configurations as presets
  5. Develop personal style library

Multi-Camera Projects

  • Use per-camera settings for different shots
  • Create presets for common camera positions
  • Sync settings across similar cameras
  • Export/import presets between projects

Creative Applications

🎬 Cinematography

  • Aspect ratio masks for different formats
  • Leading lines for dynamic camera moves
  • Z-depth for focus planning
  • Safe areas for broadcast work

📸 Photography

  • Golden ratio for natural subjects
  • Rule of thirds for general composition
  • Focal points for subject placement
  • Symmetry lines for architectural work

🏗️ Architectural Visualization

  • Custom grids for structural alignment
  • 3D floor grids for spatial reference
  • Symmetry lines for building facades
  • Aspect ratios for presentation formats

📦 Product Visualization

  • Center cross for product centering
  • Circle compositions for radial arrangements
  • Custom lines for product features
  • Image overlays for reference matching

Professional Tips

Color Coding System

  • Red: Primary composition elements
  • Blue: Secondary elements
  • Green: Reference lines
  • Yellow: Focal points
  • White/Gray: Structural guides

Project Management

  • Create project-specific preset collections
  • Use per-camera settings for shot lists
  • Export configurations for archival
  • Maintain version control for presets
  • Document custom configurations

Performance Tuning

While Cam Guides Pro is highly optimized, complex scenes with multiple high-quality guides can affect viewport performance on some systems. Use these settings to maintain a smooth experience.

  • Golden Spiral Quality: Found under Advanced Guides → Golden Spiral. This setting controls the number of line segments used to draw the spiral. For smoother navigation, use 'Medium' or 'High'. 'Ultra' provides the best visual quality for final composition but is more demanding.
  • S-Curve Segments: Found under Professional Features → S-Curve. This slider controls the smoothness of the S-Curve. A lower value (e.g., 50-80) will improve performance during interactive placement, while a higher value (e.g., 150+) is better for final framing.
  • General Tips:
    • Disable guides you are not actively using.
    • Use 'Solid' line styles instead of 'Dashed' or 'Dotted' when performance is critical.
    • Reduce grid subdivisions in the Custom Grid when not needed.
Remember: Composition guides are tools to enhance your vision, not replace your creative judgment. Use them as starting points and don't be afraid to break the rules when your artistic vision demands it.
